ASPEED Unveils 360° Smart Factory and Server Security SoCs

At COMPUTEX 2023 in Taipei, ASPEED Technology Inc. presented a suite of innovations that merge panoramic imaging with industrial and enterprise security. Central to the exhibition was the Cupola360 platform, now extended into a 360-degree remote real-time patrolling solution tailored for smart factories. This deployment is supported by the Cupola360+ software, two factory-grade panoramic camera models, and integrated panoramic video conferencing systems.

The company’s approach positions these tools for both smart factory and smart city applications, offering a complete product lineup that spans hardware and software. Alongside its established baseboard management controller (BMC) remote server management SoCs, ASPEED introduced the AST1060 Platform Firmware Resilience (PFR) security SoC, engineered to enhance server platform security. Demonstrations included products already in use by server customers integrating the AST1060.

Chris Lin, Chairman and President of ASPEED, stated, “Since the introduction of the Cupola360 Spherical Image Processor and panoramic intelligent cameras, we have collaborated with our customers to expand the various applications of Cupola360 products. We have now perfected the smart factory patrolling solution and deployment software development. In the future, we will collaborate with system integrators, distributors, and other partners in the ecosystem to promote the Cupola360 technology brand and establish its presence in smart factories and even in smart cities. We believe that this will spark innovation in various fields in the future.”

ASPEED’s development in 360-degree image processing spans years, with continual refinements aimed at eliminating blind spots and enhancing resolution. The latest Smart AV Solutions integrate image-related SoCs and software for intelligent audiovisual applications. This includes the Cupola360 Spherical Image Processor, panoramic cameras, AVoIP 1G audiovisual extension and transmission management SoCs, and the Cupola360+ software suite.

The 360-degree immersive intelligent cameras replace traditional fisheye units, delivering 5.7K high-definition imagery without distortion at the edges. Multi-point jumping inspection allows operators to switch between camera feeds across different factory zones, enabling remote oversight without entering production lines. In hazardous environments, virtual intelligent robot patrols can be conducted, improving safety and reducing manpower requirements—an important factor amid ongoing labor shortages.

Cupola360 processors provide real-time panoramic fields of view with 5.7K video resolution and still images exceeding 8K. Integrated AI functions in Cupola360+ enable data feedback from specific monitoring points, such as production line metrics, and allow targeted magnification of image sections to verify fine details. This capability addresses common limitations of fisheye optics. When paired with ASPEED’s AVoIP high-definition remote transmission SoCs, AST1530/1535, the system can serve as the backbone for intelligent factory command centers.

On the enterprise security front, ASPEED’s AST1060 PFR SoC responds to rising concerns over firmware vulnerabilities. Developed in collaboration with BIOS and BMC partners and aligned with the Open Compute Project, the AST1060 incorporates a hardware Root of Trust. Its architecture reduces hardware expenses and accelerates software design cycles for customers, while maintaining compatibility with current and future platforms. The device ensures firmware integrity, detects tampering, and restores critical data to its original state. Compliance with NIST SP800-193 and Intel PFR specifications, along with CAVP certification from NIST, underscores its adherence to recognized security standards.

By combining high-resolution panoramic imaging with robust firmware security, ASPEED’s offerings at COMPUTEX 2023 highlight a convergence of industrial monitoring and cybersecurity. The company’s vision connects physical and digital safeguards, aiming to strengthen operational resilience in factories and enterprise systems alike.
