DroneShield, an Australian and U.S.-based specialist in counter-unmanned aerial systems (C-UAS), has secured a $33 million order from a U.S. Government agency for its equipment and multi-year services. Founded in 2014, the company has built a reputation for delivering integrated detection and mitigation solutions against drone threats, leveraging both fixed and portable systems.
The company’s flagship offerings include the DroneSentry detection platform, which provides wide-area monitoring and identification of aerial threats, and the handheld DroneGun series, designed for rapid response in the field. Both employ non-kinetic jamming technology, disrupting communication links between hostile drones and their operators without physical destruction. This approach reduces collateral risk and allows for controlled neutralization, a capability increasingly valued in sensitive operational environments.
While U.S. civil regulations generally prohibit interference with drone operations, government and military agencies operate under different legal frameworks. In those domains, counter-drone systems have become indispensable for safeguarding personnel, infrastructure, and high-profile events. This trajectory suggests a strong and sustained demand for counter-UAS technologies, driven by both evolving threat landscapes and expanding operational mandates.
DroneShield’s solutions reflect broader trends in the C-UAS sector. Detection systems increasingly integrate multi-sensor arrays—radio frequency analyzers, radar, electro-optical and infrared cameras—to classify and track drones across diverse environments. Mitigation tools, such as the DroneGun, rely on targeted RF disruption, forcing drones to land or return to their point of origin.
