European Robotics Startups Reshape Industrial and Service Sectors

Over the past three years, Europe’s robotics sector has accelerated from a niche market into a magnet for generalist venture capital. Statista projects the industry’s value to reach $4.51 billion by 2027, underscoring the breadth of applications emerging across industrial, commercial, and consumer domains.

Among the companies attracting attention is ANYbotics, a Swiss developer of AI-led robotic workforces, which secured $50 million in Series B funding in May. Another is Prosper Robotics, founded by OpenAI alum Shariq Hashme, working toward a domestic robot butler. Yet, investors are scanning the horizon for the next wave of transformative players.

Christine Müller, partner at Kineo Finance, highlighted three startups with distinct approaches. Ascento Robotics, a spinout from ETH Zurich, delivers robotics-as-a-service for autonomous outdoor security patrols. Its two-wheeled platform supports security teams by reducing intervention times and enhancing data capture during perimeter checks. Framework Robotics, based in Germany, produces industrial-grade unmanned underwater vehicles for inspecting and monitoring subsea infrastructure. The modular, 3D-printed design allows adaptation to diverse underwater missions while emphasizing sustainability. Olive Robotics, also from Germany, develops software-defined robotic hardware components. These reprogrammable, plug-and-play modules enable rapid assembly of custom robots, with the company already partnering with leading universities and offering multiple products and kits.

From Picus Capital, investor Alex Rohregger pointed to Daedalus, a German platform that uses AI-enabled robots to manufacture precision parts. This capability addresses high-demand sectors such as aerospace and medical devices, where skilled machinists are in short supply. Rohregger noted potential benefits from reshoring trends in manufacturing. Gravis Robotics, originating from ETH Zurich technology, is building autonomous platforms for heavy industrial vehicles, targeting labor shortages and safety improvements in construction, mining, and agriculture. UK-based Torrmi is developing reusable software components for robots, incorporating automated bug detection and performance diagnostics to mitigate inefficiencies in legacy systems. Noyes Technologies, in Germany, offers modular, scalable automated shelving units designed for easy deployment and maintenance across businesses of varying sizes.

Antoine Veret, partner at Breega, identified Cook-e of France, which has engineered a modular cooking robot for professional kitchens. The system weighs, mixes, cooks, and self-cleans, directly addressing staffing challenges in food service. UK-based Grayscale AI applies neuromorphic computing to robotic vision, enabling faster reaction times for autonomous navigation in complex environments. Spain’s Keybotic produces four-legged robots for hazardous industrial inspections, generating 3D facility maps without human presence to improve safety and reduce environmental risks. Robeaute, another French entrant, is developing a 1.8 mm micro-robot for minimally invasive brain diagnostics and treatment guidance, particularly in deep brain stimulation for conditions such as Parkinson’s disease.

Christian Noske, partner at NGP Capital, pointed to Robco in Germany, which offers modular robotic arm systems for small and medium-sized enterprises. These end-to-end solutions automate repetitive manual tasks, lowering the barrier to industrial automation. Fruitcore Robotics, also German, focuses on affordability and low maintenance with its HORST robotic arm, designed for pick-and-place operations. Latvia’s Aerones deploys patented robotic systems for wind turbine maintenance and repair, enabling predictive servicing even at high wind speeds to protect capital-intensive renewable assets. In the UK, Dexory’s autonomous robots provide real-time warehouse inventory data, addressing the persistent challenge of locating and quantifying stock efficiently.

These startups illustrate the sector’s diversity, from subsea exploration to neuromorphic vision, and from modular kitchen assistants to AI-driven manufacturing. They also reflect a broader shift toward adaptable, service-oriented robotics platforms that can be deployed rapidly in specialized environments. The convergence of modular hardware, advanced sensing, and AI-enabled autonomy is enabling robotics to penetrate industries where automation was previously impractical or uneconomical.
