SkyeBrowse Turns Drone Models Into Clickable Walkthroughs for Faster Decisions

How does any 3D CAD model benefit if the users are still making an educated guess on what they are looking at? The question at its heart is at the heart of SkyeBrowse’s latest strides toward drone mapping: the company is no longer focused on generating models it’s focused on making spatial data readable right on the spot. It’s got an improved Image Walkthroughs, which allows users to click in to a 3D reconstruction, then open the image that was taken from that point, making dense models much more navigable than visual records.

That’s a change that’s important for a field that’s been decades longing for cleaner meshes, better textures and faster processing. Drone mapping has now become a field for more than just a photogrammetry expert. Construction managers, inspectors, investigators, attorneys, and public safety personnel often must have a visual confirmation rather than a course in how to interpret a point cloud. The Clickable Image Layers tool lets students see a series of images that they can click on to get the answer they want to the question.

SkypeBrowse was designed around videogrammetry instead of the previous photo by photo workflow, and it’s always been a favourite of time-crunched agencies and crews. The company’s existing product line includes automated orbit flights for smaller shots and grid missions for larger shots up to 200 acres across. But other operators who aren’t using the flight app will still be able to get video from any drone that can record MP4/MOV, including phones, body worn cameras, GoPros, and 360 cameras. The greater the compatibility, the better the chance of adoption, so that usability is just as important as capturing quality, because the platform is not unique to a select few mapping specialists flying very specialized aircraft.

The firm also claims its multi-video workflow generates a three times greater matching accuracy for merging multiple video sources in one model, while providing better image matching and texture quality. Does not come with a cosmetic enhancement. Often, much of what is required on film that is either needed or wanted, is a combination of passes, including an orbit to catch sides, a grid for overhead passes and more film over difficult angles. There, SkyeBrowse says to incorporate those patterns, particularly when the vertical surface and the wider site context are both important and detailed. The closer video matches alignment, the more easily trusted the final model will be at this stage before anyone begins measuring, documenting and sharing it.

Read about the other subtle, but significant feature: AI Floor Plans. According to SkyeBrowse, the new tool generates twice as many accurate floor plans and can output an aligned one from an interior model within approximately 10 minutes, with their own floor-plan creation only being reported as taking about 20 seconds when the model is prepared, completing a 10-minute video-style workflow. In outdoor photography, that cuts this distance between capture and interpretation to lessen. It doesn’t come with a lot of bells and whistles, just a sensible extension.

Drone mapping software is very skilled at creating digital scenes. Reading the same scenes by humans who weren’t trained to think like a modeler is harder. The fact that every image inside a model can be accessed directly, is driving the category even closer to the next simpler standard: hunting should be reduced or eliminated, the image should be not be ambiguous, and when the model is finally opened, it should be understood quickly.
